Lead
Paint Poisoning
Lead paint poisoning is an extremely serious matter that primarily
affects children. Children's growing bodies absorb lead far more easily
than adults. Even small amounts of lead ingested from eating paint
chips or inhaled in dust may pose a danger to children.
Children who live in old and dilapidated apartments or houses or apartments or houses that have been renovated are at the greatest risk for lead paint poisoning. Any child who is exposed to flaking or peeling paint is at risk for lead paint poisoning. High lead levels may cause hearing loss, behavioral problems, growth retardation, learning disabilities and damage to a child's nervous system and brain.
If you live in a building built before 1978, lead paint may have been
used. Peeling paint is one sign that you or your children may have
a lead paint problem. If you think you or your children have been
exposed to lead paint, take your child to a doctor for a blood-lead
test to determine whether exposure has occurred. Then contact the
lawyers at Shearer & Essner, LLP, so that we can help you and your
children. Call us now for a free consultation at 212-750-4949 or fill
